So much of what our children learn is done so by watching our behaviour over the months and years that they spend in our company. Watching how we deal with people, arguments, our money, becomes the subconscious DNA of our children’s future. Indeed, if you look at your own character traits you will no doubt be able to spot those of your own parents, both the good bits and the bits you’d like to change.

[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”so how to teach our kids?” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left|color:%23ce879f” google_fonts=”font_family:Oswald%3A300%2Cregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]We all have a natural tendency to at least try and present an ‘all is well’ picture of our lives, the article suggests that by not showing our kids the true picture we are denying them valuable learning experiences.

The author states that by:

  • showing her mistakes it shows them her strength

  • revealing her imperfections demonstrate how she tries her best

  • telling them about her failures shows them the importance of resilience

We wholeheartedly agree, we also think that you can add value to this by doing two additional things:

  1. explain the process(es) that you go through to overcome your obstacles and challenges

  2. involve them in your thoughts and decisions- we learn best by doing

Sharing with your kids also has other benefits, there is a therapeutic element (a problem shared is a problem halved), also you get a fresh perspective on the situation, a chance to re-think and re-frame the problem as well as the potential for new ideas and solutions!
