In our wander through the gorgeous graphics we discovered this great infographic which serves to debunk popular truisms or ‘mythconceptions’.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”why is this important?” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left|color:%23ce879f” google_fonts=”font_family:Oswald%3A300%2Cregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Well this piece is a bit of fun, but it serves to highlight a more important point, namely that questioning the so-called status quo, is how breakthroughs are made. Any innovation that you can think of came about by such a challenge to the ‘normal’ way of doing things. Teaching our kids to think like this, is one of the ways that they will stand out from the well educated and conformist competition that they will have to deal with as adults.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”so how to teach our kids?” font_container=”tag:h4|text_align:left|color:%23ce879f” google_fonts=”font_family:Oswald%3A300%2Cregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]There are a number of ways to do this and we have listed 5 below. It by no means is an exhaustive list, so please feel free to add your own thoughts and ideas in the comments box below.

  1. Lead by example- be inquisitive yourself, if you don’t know the answer ‘ask’ or find out (google). If your kid sees that you don’t have all the answers BUT, you know how to find them, that’s inspirational.

  2. Don’t kill their inquisitive spirit! When they are asking their millionth question of the evening and after a hard day inside you are saying ‘please be quiet’ resist that urge. Have the patience, rise above it and respond.

  3. Get them to read. Turn off the TV, stick them in bed 10 minutes earlier than usual and let them read. Nothing feeds the imagination like reading and nothing fuels the inquisitive mind more than the imagination of possibility.

  4. Resist the urge to do it for them, let them make mistakes (big and small), that’s how they learn and want to learn how to do it better (by asking questions).

  5. Ask them ‘what do you think?’ and when they respond, ask them ‘what is it that leads you to that conclusion?’. Having a point of view is important, being able to back that up makes them think, having someone question it, makes them question themselves and have to come up with answers.
