Module 8: Emotional Precision

Parent/ Caregiver notes and tips.

hello again

Welcome to Module 8.

We hope that you and your child enjoy it.

Please get in touch if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, we'd love to hear from you.

purpose of the module

The latest in neurological research tells us that we are more in control of our emotions than we might think and that the key to being able to exert more control, is to develop a more precise emotional vocabulary.

By giving your brain more emotional choices, it is better equiped to deal with life's challenges.

This module is designed to help your child to do that.

precise emotion selector

We have created a tool which will help your child to be more precise in describing their emotions; the imaginatively titled, the PRECISE EMOTION SELECTOR.

It takes 7 MAIN EMOTIONS and then digs a little deeper for each one.

We want your child to really be PRECISE with their emotions so for each one there is a link to a visualiser, a thesaurus and a dictionary.

activity 1:
what to expect

In this activity your child will describe how they feel in various situations.

Use the PRECISE EMOTION SELECTOR and make sure that your child takes some time to really let the words that describe their emotion sink in.

activity 2:
what to expect

This activity helps to contextualise emotions. It's all well and good having a rich emotional vocabulary, you also need to teach your brain the right context in which to use it.

Activity 2 will help your child to identify a situation in their life that makes them feel anxious or worried and help tpprogramme their brain to construct some useful emotions as well.

what to expect

The purpose of the challenge is to help your child to notice their emotions each day.

Most of us don't really notice what we feel, until something happens and we react.

Yet, we generate emotions all the time, this exercise will help your child to notice what they feel and develop their emotional vocabulary.

Ok, that's it.

It's time to start the 8th module.

Good luck!
