How you see yourself (self-image) is the mental picture that you build over time as you experience life.

In this exercise we are going to give it a little boost by borrowing a technique used by top sportspeople: visualisation.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”how it works” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23ce879f” google_fonts=”font_family:Oswald%3A300%2Cregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Research suggests that you can actually get better at something even if you only practice it in your imagination. By mentally rehearsing you can actually prepare your brain to perform the activity in real life, strange but true.

Using your imagination activates and strengthens the connections in your brain, which then makes it easier to perform the activity in real life.

In fact, many sportspeople use visualisation techniques because it helps them to increase their confidence and improve their performance.

So we are going to use the power of your imagination and visualisation to increase your confidence and to improve your resilience.

The answer: draw a picture.

Your brain loves images and symbols, so we are going to feed it, by creating a powerful drawing of you being resilient. It doesn’t matter if it’s real or not, we just need the image and we need to make it as vibrant and as bright as possible

Don’t worry if art is not your thing, it doesn’t need to be a masterpiece, the drawing just needs to come from YOU.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”5/12″][vc_empty_space height=”45px”][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZnaXBoeS5jb20lMkZlbWJlZCUyRlpOd2FNMTkyTlNJSDYlMjIlMjB3aWR0aCUzRCUyMjQ4MCUyMiUyMGhlaWdodCUzRCUyMjQ4MCUyMiUyMGZyYW1lQm9yZGVyJTNEJTIyMCUyMiUyMGNsYXNzJTNEJTIyZ2lwaHktZW1iZWQlMjIlMjBhbGxvd0Z1bGxTY3JlZW4lM0UlM0MlMkZpZnJhbWUlM0UlM0NwJTNFJTNDYSUyMGhyZWYlM0QlMjJodHRwcyUzQSUyRiUyRmdpcGh5LmNvbSUyRmdpZnMlMkZkcmF3aW5nLVpOd2FNMTkyTlNJSDYlMjIlM0V2aWElMjBHSVBIWSUzQyUyRmElM0UlM0MlMkZwJTNF[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”10/12″][vc_custom_heading text=”let’s do this” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:center|color:%23ce879f” google_fonts=”font_family:Oswald%3A300%2Cregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]To make this image as powerful as possible, we are going to use our 5 senses to describe a particular incident in your past when you:

Demonstrated your resilience or,

Never gave in or,

Did your best when nobody was looking or,

If you can’t remember a time, can you imagine one in your future?

Ok… got an answer?

Awesome, now write down the answers to the following questions (if you can’t think of an answer, no problem, move on to the next question).

 What do you look like?

How do you feel?

What do you say to yourself?

How does you look to others?

What sounds can you hear?

What can you smell?

Now you have a list of words, and you have activated your imagination, it’s time to start drawing a picture:

Make it bright and colourful.

Use words and images.

If possible, draw you in the picture doing whatever it was where you showed your resilience.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_type=”3″ blox_padding_top=”25″ blox_padding_bottom=”25″ row_color=”#58646d”][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”10/12″][vc_custom_heading text=”moving forward” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23ce879f” google_fonts=”font_family:Oswald%3A300%2Cregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Put the picture somewhere safe, this is your image of how resilient you can be.

Whenever you need to feel resilient or you have a tricky situation, get the picture out, look at it and let the emotions you feel rise inside you.

The more you do this, the more powerful the image will be.

Soon you won’t have to even look at it, you will be able to bring it up in your mind and the feelings you have attached to the image will appear like magic.

This will put you in the right state to act and behave resiliently.

This is your new superpower… use it often.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”10/12″][vc_separator color=”white”][vc_custom_heading text=”end of the activity” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23ce879f” google_fonts=”font_family:Oswald%3A300%2Cregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Great work, well done!
